What might a child bring to summer camp? TLCSchools Plano TX
What might a child bring to summer camp? As the weather begins to warm up and final exams begin to close, there’s only one thing on a lot of kids’ minds: summer camp! This exciting seasonal getaway can be an opportunity for your child to learn, grow, and play in a unique, fun-filled setting.
Whether your child is heading to summer camp for the first time or the 50th, it’s always a good idea to brush up on that packing list. That list goes double if your child is in any kind of particular kind of summer camp, as specialized programs can ask that your child arrives with a kit of their own to use during camp activities – so make sure to check that list twice!

Day and Overnight Camper List Suggestions
A reusable water bottle. While many summer camps will provide reusable water bottles once your child arrives, some programs may not. Either way, sending your child to camp with a water bottle is a good way to make sure your child is staying hydrated throughout the day – especially if it gets as hot in your area as it does in our neighborhood: Plano, Texas. For a healthy and environmentally friendly option, a reusable water bottle is at the top of our day and overnight camper list.
A jacket or sweater. At many summer camps, air conditioning isn’t available. But, alas, when it is, your child will be at the mercy of camp counselors as far as thermostat temperatures go. Consider sending your child with a jacket they can use in case indoor temperatures don’t exactly meet your home’s needs – or, really, your electricity budget!
And on the other side of things, sun protection. Sun protection for children is especially important. On those activity-packed summer camp days, our kids are bustling around from one fun-filled station to the next. While camp counselors will likely do their best to make sure every child has access to sunscreen, it can often be forgotten amidst hectic days. At TLC Camp, we recommend that students bring rash guards, hats, and other sun protection offerings. After all, there’s no downer on a summer camp day than a bad sunburn.
A little spending money. Many summer camps have vending machines where children can purchase soft drinks and sports drinks – we know our program at TLCSchools Plano Texas does! Some summer camps will also have stores where campers can purchase souvenirs to take home.
Any medication, especially if your child may need refills. While making your child’s summer camp aware of any medication they may be taking is a given, double-check on any medical procedures the camp may take. For instance, if your summer camp asks that campers take medicine only in a specific location, like a nurse’s office, make sure to have a talk with your child on where to go if they need any medication. The same goes for medication that may require refrigeration – is there a fridge nearby where your child can go to make sure their medical needs are topped-up?

And as for program specifics, reach out to your local camp directors and counselors about your child’s needs. For instance, our curriculum offers dedicated learning time on each of our summer camp days. While our kids get a bundle of fun activities in everything that happens at our Plano summer camp, we make sure to focus part of our campers’ days on lively educational development. At TLC Schools, we make sure that cognitive advancement and summertime games go hand-in-hand for all of our camp-goers.
