If you have been looking around for the best preschool in Plano, or even just familiarizing yourself with the benefits of preschool, you may have realized that many preschool programs offer language development as a part of their curriculum. While this may seem extremely early to be teaching additional languages, it is actually the prime time! Let’s take a look at why language development in early childhood education is essential, what language development programs are offered at TLC Schools, and why you should enroll your child today!
Why Teach Language So Early?
Children are especially adept at learning, even from an extremely early age. Language development skills are no exception. While your child is growing up, they develop and acquire their first language from observing and practicing, which allows them to be fluent and comfortable utilizing that language extremely well. Often, there is not even a second thought given to this first language development.
What is sometimes overlooked, however, is that a second language can be taught from an early age as well, which also allows children to develop a comfortability with it in addition to their first language. Early childhood education that employs language development in preschool curriculums (and even earlier!) are taking full advantage of children’s ability to soak up new information quickly and provide them with additional skills that can benefit them throughout their entire lives.
Language Development Programs at TLC Schools
At TLC Schools, we offer two different programs within our language development curriculum. We find that both are extremely effective and are very beneficial for children to participate in. Let’s check them out!
Immersive Spanish
The first language development program that TLC Schools offers is an immersive Spanish class. TLC Schools believes that learning a second language is essential to a child’s language development, and we facilitate this with our curriculum. Many studies have demonstrated the benefits of second language learning not only on students’ linguistic abilities but on their cognitive and creative abilities as well. Immersive language programs are an exceptional way to foster the development of a second language, as it employs similar techniques that naturally occur with learning a first language.
Sign Language
The second language development program that TLC Schools offers is sign language. From baby sign language up to preschool Signing Time, this program builds the skills to effectively communicate in ASL. As seen on Public Television and Netflix, Signing Time will introduce your child to over 1,000 signs and teach them how to put signs together in sentences. Sign and sing along with real families and children in the show. Sing, sign, move, and learn!
Children will learn sign language vocabulary and approximately 30 signs per series. This program also helps children learn about others with different ranges of abilities and needs.
